How wrong is a good heuristic?
The Guy–Kelly estimate, measured against exact counts.
A useful heuristic deserves a measured error. This work compares the Guy–Kelly heuristic with exact counts for the no-three-in-line problem.
The comparison treats discrepancy as a quantity to explain rather than a reason to discard either the model or the data.
Where the claim stops.
Agreement or error on the counted instances does not by itself establish asymptotic correctness.
